Radon Mitigation Maryland
Keep Your Home Safe & Your Family HealthyDid you know that radon gas causes lung cancer?
Radon is second only to smoking as a primary cause of lung cancer in the United States. This makes radon the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.
What about the fact that as of October 2016, Montgomery County REQUIRES a radon test to be part of ALL real estate transactions?
What is Radon?
Radon is a smokeless, tasteless, naturally occurring radioactive gas. Uranium is present in almost all soils, and its decay produces radon. It’s estimated to kill tens of thousands of people each year. It silently invades your home, and you won’t know it’s there unless you test for it.

What Does Radon Look Like in Maryland?
According to this image, taken from the Maryland Department of Health website, a large portion of Maryland has reported radon measurements higher than the EPA recommended maximum of 4 pCi/L.
How Does Radon Get Inside My Maryland Home?
When uranium decays in the soil, it produces radon that moves up through the soil. The radon then dissipates into the atmosphere. Except for when it becomes trapped in your home.
Radon enters your home through a variety of subtle entrances
- Cracks in solid floors
- Construction Joints
- Spaces in suspended floors
Instead of dissipating into the above ground air, it collects in your living space and becomes a life-threatening hazard to you and your loved ones.
How Much Radon is Too Much Radon?
Gas particles in the air are measured in picocuries per liter of air, written as pCi/L.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), even a little radon exposure is too much radon. The primary risk factors are:
- Level of exposure
- Length of exposure
- Whether you smoke or have smoked in the past
Even if you’ve never smoked, exposure to even 20 pCi/l of radon makes you 35 times more likely to develop lung cancer than your chance of drowning. If you have smoked, those chances jump up to 250 times more likely.

Atlantic Real Estate Services built a terrific radon mitigation system in my house. Tommy was very considerate about the look of the system and found the perfect spot to put the pipe – I never would’ve thought of it in a million years. The price was right about where I thought it would be and since the system has gone in I’ve seen a substantial decrease in radon in my house. I couldn’t be happier. Highly recommended.

I had a great experience with Tommy from Atlantic RES. He was 100% professional and really dedicated to making sure that my radon mitigation system was installed correctly. He also made the exterior part of the system match the same brown rain pipes on the exterior of my home so that the pipes weren’t visually disruptive. All in all, a great experience and I highly recommend.
